How To Get Here
Bocas del Toro Region
Bocas del Toro is the archipelago of the Caribbean coast of Panama. Up until recently, the region remained undiscovered for most international travelers. Because of this, much of the islands retain their untouched beauty. Bocas del Toro is a water and outdoor lovers paradise with vibrant coral reefs and sandy beaches.
The people of the province are made up of mainly indigenous tribes, many of which still live in small isolated villages scattered throughout the islands. Add to this a mix of people originally from Jamaica, eastern Caribbean islands and Europe, and you have a colorful melting pot of cultures. The pace of life is slow and relaxed. Locals travel between the islands in dugout canoes.
Notable celebrations are the Feria del Mar (Fair of the Sea) in September, with music, games, handmade crafts and delicious local food. The month of November offers a feast for the senses with parades and marching bands, school and provincial colors all in honor of the various dates in November that celebrate Panamanian and Bocatoranian independence. There is also Carnival, held the five days before Ash Wednesday, where there are vibrant parades, men dressed as devils and big parties every night.
